Powering Crash Applications Altair Radioss™ in the Microsoft Azure Cloud

Cloud has become a popular alternative to in-house computing resources as demand for HPC performance rises. Altair collaborated with Microsoft® to run its highly parallel, compute-intensive Altair Radioss™ crash simulation code in the Azure cloud — and achieved excellent performance results. Running Radioss in the Azure cloud provides users with access to the latest Intel processors and high-end Infiniband interconnect for large jobs or time critical workloads so companies can experiment without making large upfront capital commitments. For example, customers can run jobs that require up to 13,200 cores on Azure HC series. These Virtual Machines (VMs) feature the most powerful Intel Xeon Platinum processors with 100 gigabit Infiniband for bare metal performance rivaling some of the most powerful supercomputers. If these experiments prove successful, then going from “idea” to “decision” to “execution” becomes more accelerated than it would otherwise be possible for many on-premise sites.
